Variations on a too‐well‐known theme
In the summer of 1971, when I was a young adult living with my parents, we spent a fortnight in our house with close family friends. Their children seemed to know just one piano tune among them. They played it a lot. I composed these variations to get it out of my system.
You will hear:
- Theme
- Theme with descant
- Variation in the style of George Gershwin
- Variation in the style of Robert Schumann
- Variation in the style of Frédéric Chopin
- Finale in the style of Charles‑Valentin Alkan
